About Us
The Thatch P.H., called so because of the thatched roof of the original building which dates back to the 1500's or before.

Thought to be originally an old smugglers ale house the pub was later used as the pay office of the men working on the erection of the Old Bridge between Tweedmouth and Berwick.

The ancient mounting block (Louping Stone) used by visiting horsemen is still in place at the entrance to the building, although it was once removed and taken to the local rubbish tip until the West End residents reclaimed it and brought it back to its rightful place.

In the late 1800's the old pub was the victim of a fire which destroyed all but a few stones and a portion of wall. It was then rebuilt to almost the same specifications with a slate not thatch roof, but kept the original name.

In 2002 the interior of the pub was subject to a complete makeover and is now decorated in a modern stainless steel and red scheme.

Keef and Net took over the tenancy of The Thatch on 25th August 2004 and have happily welcomed customers old and new since.
